Magnetism

This week we have been investigating and experimenting with magnets. A magnet is a solid object that has the power to attract iron and other metals.

We tested the strength of different magnets by comparing the amount of paper clips they could hold.  To keep the test fair, we made sure we used the same size paper clips each time!

We also investigated the north and south poles of magnets. Opposite poles attract and same poles repel.

A material can be magnetised by stroking it with one pole of a magnet. We magnetised a nail and tested it to see how many paper clips it would hold!
